Night Festival 2014

This year, I finally get a chance to attend the Night Festival! This is because, this year it extends till the month of August according to the lunar calendar. Count myself really lucky because this festival usually falls during the 7th month and I am forbidden to go. Xy and Yn plus breadman decided to go for this event on the 29 August, a Saturday night, which was also the second last day of the event. Anyway, it wasnt that impressive as I expected and I actually feel that Ilights which I attended earlier on was way better and more interactive. I shall write about Ilights later on. Pardon for the backdated posts! Been too busy these days, juggling with 2 jobs concurrently (one is just part time la) and managing my online store. I never expected myself to be able to multitask, but somehow or rather, when you are faced with that situation, you will be able to manage it somehow. Here are the pics taken during the festival. Camera's bad when capturing at night. Need sponsorship for a new camera! Any kind souls willing to sponsor or contribute to my camera fund? Haha.

Night lights: Landscape by Landscape by Agathe De Bailliencourtcourt (France)
This installation was at greenery near the National Museum, with light being casted on them. There were also glow-in-the-dark pebbles for the public to have fun with. Pick up a pebble, bring it under the light, then observe as it glows slowly.
Night lights: Divine Trees by Clement Briend (France)
These surreal light projections are a study of the divine and the spiritual in the world, made visible by projection onto objects of nature. It is interesting to note how the texture of the trees make this piece wholly realistic. Does it look creepy to you? It sure does to me. Silly sister asked "wa, how they cut the trees into like that huh?" Another sister and myself blurted out laughing. "You mean you haf no idea this is just light being projected on the tree?" Haha.

Acrobatic performance. This was pretty nice because the performers were graceful while sliding down the thin long cloth. This isnt easy and requires coordination between the two performers as they both had to slide down and perform stunts at the same time.
I didnt think there were any safety precautions done. No safety harness. Their lives were solely dependent on that thin long cloth.

Night lights: Dresses of Memory by Taegon Kim (France/Korea)
On display in the Armenian Church, where countless couples have had their lives united in blissful matrimony, these dresses are a physical manifestation of their beautiful memories. Kim's work celebrates the romance of being in love and having a lover's silhouette imprinted on the webs of one's memory.
I really really love this display! Doesnt it remind you of a victorian queen's wedding? These 40m long optic fibres were intricately woven to form dresses, with different lights shone under the display. I love this piece because it's a simple concept, yet cleverly delivered. This definitely requires a pair of meticulous hands to complete.

Night lights: Alsos* by Scenocosme (France)
This installation was interactive and it requires visitors to use flashlights/lights from their phones. Point your flashlight at the fluorescent flowers on the tree branches to make them play a melody that evolves according to the intensity of light cast on them. We didnt quite like this installation though as the flower didnt lit up as much as we expected and the melody was already playing all along, thus we didnt associate light intensity with the playing of the sounds at all.

                                                   Sisters!
Night lights: Cyanea by Cumulus (France)
This piece was inspired by the Cyanea capillata, one of the largest jellyfish in the world. The lights change periodically, while we observed this magnificent piece from afar.

Night lights: Spirits of Nature by Wecomeinpeace (France)
In this piece, the Singapore Art Museum is cleverly transformed into a canvas showcasing the beauty of nature. On this giant canvas, natural elements come alive with spirits of their own; winds rumble and blow, fires are sparked and nature blooms.

Here's a video I have taken for this display. Video's bad because it was taken across the street. Thus you will see much traffic in this short clip. Hee
Alright that's all, hope next year's Night Fest would be better!
