Oh yes, this reminded me of the recent movie I watched, Jack Neo's Ah Boys to Men, which discusses about national service in a lame, laidback way. It's a no brainer show which made me chuckle for a bit. Though I am not a huge fan of him, I think I have watched every single one of his films, ironically. As usual, there are crude hokkien jokes, which serve to entice the elderly. A pity though, the show isnt entirely in mandarin, as half of it is in english, with bits of hokkien included. That's why it isnt exactly elderly friendly. My dad couldnt understand half of the show and had to rely on subtitles, but sometimes the jokes are funnier if when you listen to them and the humor is all gone by the time you read the subtitles. Note to Jack Neo: Make it more elderly friendly in the future. Limit the use of english language to the minimum so that it caters to more people.
I learnt a sexual slang by the end of the movie though. Simpoh air leaves are otherwise known as CB leaves. At first I couldnt understand because the image of the leaves was censored in the movie... then after googling ( google is always my best friend), I found this!
Does it resemble a woman's vagina or what? Interesting.... It turns out that if you split the leaf, you will see this because the new leaves grow from the axil of old ones. This leaf is commonly used to wrap food items. In the movie, the officer scolded the recruits for using these leaves to camouflage themselves, which I do not understand though. It's green, it's big, so by right good for camouflage what... I think this censorship is kind of pointless, because there's no nudity involved. It's just a part of nature. If you censor leaves, might as well censor this then...
