Maccha House

I have finally checked out Maccha House after having heard so much talk about it, whether online or offline. The name appeals to me because I am kind of a green-tea nut. I love matcha, matcha flavoured ice cream, even matcha bread! Probably it's coincidentally that matcha is green in colour, which is my favourite colour of all times.
Situated at Orchard Central with Somerset MRT near its vicinity, this should be a prime location for Maccha House. I was surprised to find it nearly empty on a weekday night. Anyway, it wasnt just with Maccha House. Orchard Central seems like a dead town on weekdays. Probably that's the reason why I love that place. No crowds to squeeze past, no long snaking queues. I kind of like the concept of a dead town. Haha.

Earthy tones of brown and green, walls decorated with flower motifs. This place speaks of Japanese. Somehow, I felt quite at ease and relaxed once I stepped into the restaurant. Met up with the cousin on this day as one of our cousin-dates. No prices for food items in this entry as I did not keep the receipt.

My pick for the day was Salmon Roe and Wasabi Udon, which consists of udon cooked in wasabi cream and seaweed, topped with salmon roe and spring onions as condiments. This was a disappointing dish because I couldnt taste the wasabi in it at all. There's no suddenly-air-shooting-up your-nose-sensation. It didnt taste bad either. It was just ok. But I thought the dish was wrongly named. Hmmm...

Seafood Ramen was cousin's choice and it came with a number of clams and scallops soaked in clear broth. The soup was flavoursome, but a tad too salty. However, I guess that's the trademark of ramen. They are usually quite salty. Noodles were springy and not overly cooked. Cousin didnt finish this dish as it was too salty for her too and it feels like you are downing salt water.

After we are done with our mains, it's time for desserts! There is always room for dessert, no matter if your stomach is almost bursting. Haha. I love desserts, because they are sweet looking and sweet looking things just give you the impression that they are palatable. They make me happy and feel that life is worth living for. Haha.

I really like the presentation of Maccha Tiramisu. There's also a cup of matcha if you find the tiramisu too sweet. This tiramisu, albeit creamy, is not overwhelmingly rich. Thus, it was pretty nice and wasnt too cloyingly sweet or creamy. The matcha tea brings out the flavour of the cake as well. Once you tasted something bitter, the next sweet thing that you eat will appear slightly sweeter. One little complaint is that I wished there were more matcha powder! Not enough leh. I would very much like a more bittersweet taste.

Matcha Soft Serve for the cousin! This one is really really good! The vanilla and matcha icecream made a divine match as it complements each other. Plus, there wasnt a strong milk taste that's characteristic of most of the matcha ice creams I have tasted (even in Sakae). There were no chunks of undissolved ice bits, like some inferior ice creams used to have. It was indeed Soft Serve. Very very soft. Melts in your mouth instantly. I think this is $4 if I remember correctly. Worth every penny.

If I were to come back to Maccha House again, I'll definitely skip the mains and go straight to their desserts. After all, this place is well known for desserts. Plus there's no matcha in most of their main courses too loh.
