I was pretty happy at work today because of the things that happened. So I was up at the dementia ward today, gathering thumb prints for the submission of the means testing forms, then I went around to make rounds after that. Went to the female ward and noticed a patient sleeping, with sunlight shining on her head. That's not gonna be comfortable for a normal human being, much less for someone who is frail and elderly and has restricted mobility. Thus, I went up and drew the curtains for her, telling her to call for nurses in e future if the sun is too glaring. Then again, she has dementia, I dun think she will remember this conversation after I left. She expressed her heartfelt gratitude for my small gesture as she thanked me repeatedly despite being down with a cough. That made me feel so much appreciated and I left her room with a smile. Then I went to the male ward and I chatted with the usual fellows, A, K and M. A then told me something really absurd but made me laugh like mad. He said in English, that the other 2 guys were looking for Malay girls to kiss, but he himself is looking for Chinese girls. He said he told them that there are no Malay girls here but they dun listen. Then all 3 of them chuckled even though I know that K cannot understand English and he shouldnt know what A had told me. Yet he burst out laughing. M then followed suit and all of them were laughing. Of course I was very amused by this sight n I laughed as well. Even though they are dementia patients and they might be cognitively impaired such that their words are not making sense, it's their genuine innocence that touches me from the bottom of my heart. Once again, I am extremely happy to be in the social work department. If you leave office each day with a smile, you know u are in the right job. Thanks old folks!
