Hippopotamus Restaurant Grill

Had lunch with sister at Hippopotamus Restaurant Grill after my pampering session at Pink Parlour. It was my virgin experience at this restaurant and I must say, I would definitely return back to the place again! Good food, good service, affordable prices, relaxed ambience, what more can I ask for? Complimentary chips and bread were served before our main course. Yay! Who dun love free food :)

Then our beverages were served. Baby cino and cafe mocha.
Baby cino. It's really a tiny cup of milk!
                                                                          Cafe mocha.

We merely waited for 10 minutes for our main dishes and that's really efficient service. Sis ordered the set meal who consists of a main dish, two side dishes and dessert. Her choice was spicy chicken cutlet, with potato gratin and ratatouille. I ordered hippo cheese burger which came with the same side dishes as well. It was my first time having junk food after many many months! But the portion is pretty big! I could not finish my burger and had to give half to my sister.  Ratatouille is a concoction of mixed vegetables cooked in thick spaghetti sauce and it reminded me of minestrone. Potato gratin was really nice and creamy and it's no wonder why it's a chef's recommendation. I get to choose from a list of 6 sauces for my burger: barbecue, bearnaise, homemade thai chili, stewed shallot, pepper and roquefort cheese. My choice, barbecue sauce! Boring! Hahah... It would be good if I had fries as a side dish.
My hippo cheese burger consists of a well done beef patty, topped with melted cheddar cheese and sauteed onions. It was sheer indulgence to eat this mouths after mouths... haha. finger licking good! On top of that, the bread was nice and soft and could be eaten on its own. The best part of this dish: it is not oily at all!

Sister's spicy chicken cutlet was grilled and had a slight spicy aftertaste. Her only complaint was that there was no chili sauce! So i gave her my barbecue sauce and that shut her up. Haha.

Dessert for sister was xmas fruit cake, with vanilla sauce at the side. I am not exactly a fan of fruit cake but this made me change my opinion. As most fruit cakes are usually pretty heavy to stomach, this wasnt, surprisingly. The butter smell was empowering, but I like!

The waitress attending to us did an exemplary job too. It was so excellent that I think she deserves a mention. Few things she did: 1) answered our queries about the different kinds of food and beverages 2) refilled our drinks regularly without being asked 3) served dessert right after my sis finished main course 4) prepared two sets of utensils for sharing the cake although it was only meant for one 5) smiled and greeted us. I havent encountered such service for a long long time! Her name is Siti by the way, the FnB service line really needs service crew like her who takes pride in her work. I wrote an extremely well feedback for the place and that's a surprise because usually when I do write feedbacks, they were written because of an unsatisfactory dining experience. Siti beamed when she read what I wrote... haha. So cute! Keep up the good work :)

Feedback card. My first positive feedback! Haha... I am too hard to please.

Cute hippo greeting you at the main entrance.
